Artist Statement
Driven by the belief that art should surround the viewer with positive feelings, I imbue each piece with a sense of warmth and optimism. My creations are more than just decorations; they are conversation starters, mood boosters, and reminders of the simple beauty that surrounds us.
My collages are crafted from recycled magazine clippings, each one carefully chosen and repurposed. I believe in taking little premade pieces of beauty and reshaping them into something new. I love examining the original images, appreciating the care with which they were made, and honoring that craftsmanship by transforming them into something they were never intended to be.
It's a reflection of our own journeys—we change. I strive to ensure that the direction of this change is always toward joy and happiness. Through my art, I aim to celebrate the beauty of transformation and the enduring power of positivity.

Process
1. Spark & Vision
It all begins with a spark of inspiration. I quickly capture the idea with a napkin sketch or photo, then refine the idea digitally in Photoshop by combining reference photos until the composition and scale feel just right. Once the vision is set, I sketch the plan at full size on the canvas.
2. Curating Materials
With the blueprint in place, I dive into my magazines; hunting for the perfect colors, textures, and images. I carefully sort the clippings by lightness and darkness, creating a palette that will bring balance and depth to the piece.
3. Building the Collage
I brush down glue, and place a clipping. Another layer of glue seals it, soaking the paper fully. Then smooth it clean with a silicone wedge to remove excess glue. Stepping back often, I refine the piece from every angle, adding more until the composition feels complete.
4. Preserving the Artwork
Once the collage feels fully realized, I allow the glue to fully dry. Finally, I seal the piece with a protective UV varnish, ensuring its colors and textures remain vibrant for years to come.

“I am constantly surprised by how much JOY this piece of art brings me!”
“It was designed for the entry into the primary bedroom, and I see it from both the kitchen and the living room. It makes me smile so many times every day to see my kitten chasing a butterfly! It captures his personality beautifully. Jessica was easy to work with and understood the mood of our home. She created a piece that blends perfectly while also standing out magnificently.”
Jessi Golden
Biography
Jessi Golden (b. 2000, Lowell, MA) is a collage artist whose work centers on joy, identity, and the human connections that shape us. Working primarily with donated magazines, she builds portraits and scenes from the fragments of everyday media—creating layered images that are both deeply personal and universally relatable.
Jessi first discovered collage as a teenager, sifting through stacks of magazines around her mother’s house. Drawn to the colors, lighting, and beauty in those images, she began tearing and arranging them into something new: not just pictures, but narratives. Her first piece—a portrait named Laurel—set the tone for a practice rooted in emotion, storytelling, and the reimagining of discarded materials.
Her process is intuitive and slow: she sketches from digital mockups, selects images with care, and builds her compositions in layers using matte medium and brushwork. She favors LIFE magazines for their harsh lighting and expressive scenes, often spending weeks collecting the right fragments before anything touches canvas. What results is work that rewards close attention: intricate portraits that offer something new each time you return to them.
Jessi holds a degree in Graphic Design from Red Rocks College and has trained with collage artist Derek Gores. She works out of The Generator in Reno, a creative makerspace with roots in Burning Man culture. That communal, ephemeral spirit infuses her practice—especially her belief in transformation, impermanence, and finding beauty in what might otherwise be overlooked.
Her 2025 solo show, Together We..., explored the relationships in her life through visual pairs, offering viewers a mirror for their own emotional landscapes. Her work has been exhibited at the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, Makers Paradise, North Tahoe Arts, and 40 West Gallery, among others. She was the second-place winner in the 2024 Illusions and Enigmas competition at Ten Moir Gallery.
At the heart of Jessi’s work is an ongoing conversation—with the material, with herself, and with the viewer. “There’s the main image,” she says, “but then there’s the long-term relationship you build with it. You can get lost in the small things. You can find new stories over time.”

FAQs
About the Art
What materials / tools do you use in your artwork?
Materials: I work exclusively with “found” or donated magazines. I love this because I believe what surrounds us shapes who we are. Magazines, with their mix of text and imagery, capture that mix of culture and identity beautifully. Technically, that makes me an affiches lacérées collage artist, though that’s a bit of a mouthful.
Tools:
Brushes (all kinds, though I favor big flat ones)
Golden Matte Medium (glue)
Traditional stretched canvas
Silicone wedge tool
Golden Archival Varnish (Satin)
How long does a typical piece take to complete?
On average, about a week and a half; but it really depends on the size and complexity. For performances, I need at least three hours for the live portion, plus prep work beforehand and studio refinements afterward..
How should I care for and maintain your artwork?
As with all fine art, avoid direct UV light; it will eventually cause damage, even though my pieces are UV-varnished. Otherwise, dust occasionally and handle with care.
Can I see your work in person? Do you have a studio or gallery?
Yes! You’re welcome to visit my studio at 2450 Oddie Blvd, Suite 110, Reno, NV, USA. Just let the receptionist know you’re visiting, and they’ll bring you back to my space. You’ll also get to see other amazing studios in the building. My work is also shown in galleries—please see below for the most up-to-date list. Portfolio
What is your studio like?
Messy! Overflowing with magazines in every direction. It’s chaotic, but in the best way.
About Purchasing
Do you accept commissions?
Yes! Happily! I create commissions for both individuals and businesses. If you’re interested, please check out: Commissions
Can I purchase prints or reproductions of your art?
Yes. I especially love metal prints, they look stunning in homes or commercial spaces and they’re durable for shipping and moving. I also offer giclée prints by request. Please email me if you’d like one.
Do you offer framed and unframed options?
Yes. If a work is listed as unframed but you’d prefer it framed, just reach out and I can provide framing for an additional upfront cost.
Do you offer framed and unframed options?
Carefully, haha. Original works are secured with corners and boxed to fit, ensuring the artwork never touches the box walls. Metal prints are even easier, they’re wrapped securely in shipping material and ready to go. All shipments are insured.
What is your return and refund policy?
I accept returns for a full refund, provided the artwork is undamaged and unmarked. Since I insure everything I ship, if a piece is damaged in transit, the cost is covered through the shipper.
Can I reproduce or license your art?
In certain cases, yes. Licensing and reproduction are available by request, but only with my express written permission for a negotiated fee. Please contact me for details.
